Suzie McMurtry

bio

I am an interdisciplinary designer from the San Francisco Bay Area. I work as a freelance design researcher, most recently full time in London with Policy Lab UK, where I explored using serious games in energy regulation change, systems change theories in improving social care, film ethnography in building evidence for increasing opportunities for young people, and more. I completed an MA in Material Futures at Central Saint Martins in 2022.

Broadly, I’m interested in socio-ecological systems. I have a background in fiber and printmaking and worked primarily in sustainable fashion from 2017 to 2023.

My practice is directed towards exploring climate resilience, circularity, greenwashing, and regenerative design. I have engaged with these themes using tools from speculative, clothing, material, service, and social design. I have shown my artwork in Colorado and California and my design work in the UK and the Netherlands.

I’m open to full time roles in public policy. Please reach out regarding my availability for freelance workshops, material consulting, or research projects.

NYnorLA, Spring 2018 Capsule Collection

A small collection of clothing made from remnants, printed with a low-impact photographic transfer technique or dyed by hand.

The name NYnorLA intends to start a conversation about the ongoing perceived density of American art and design movements in these two coastal cities. The majority of materials used in these pieces are secondhand in an effort to acknowledge the importance of extending the life of landfill-bound objects. Most of the pieces in this collection are 'one-offs' and won't be reproduced

This collection was launched in the spring of 2018 at 802 N. Nevada St. in Colorado Springs, CO. It was shown at the Colorado College Fashion Show and photographed with Alyssa Denay Carter (https://www.alyssadenaycarter.com/), Brittany Camacho and Tess Murdoch (http://tessmurdoch.com/). Another photoshoot took place at Joshua Tree with Sabrina Piersol and Emma Kearney.
