Civic Summons: 2046
A gallery, workshop & portal to explore a climate resilient future.
July 5th & 11th, 2026, in collaboration with CivicMakers.

Somewhere between the rocks & trees in July, 2026, a portal opened in Miraloma Park.
Over two activations during the Future of Us festival, 50+ San Francisco residents stepped into a future where neighborhood climate resilience is shaped collaboratively & civic assemblies* are a celebrated part of life in our city.
*Civic assemblies are a form of deliberative democracy that brings together residents to collaborate to influence policy (see: Participedia).

You're called to use your lived experience as an SF resident to contribute to various climate resilience plans in the city. Local snacks, a handmade ceramic plate, & a beautiful risograph print are your compensation for your time & energy.
In real civic assemblies around the world, financial compensation & other accommodations are the norm.

Transported to 2046 into a room with a timeline partially populated by climate resilience successes & speculative incidents, residents added their own details to this vision.
After perusing the timeline & gallery, all residents in attendance were called to join a table, where they’d be led in facilitated deliberation about one of three topics. The briefs they were assigned ranged from designing a program (of any scale) to strengthen the circular economy to repurposing the city’s treasured & long-obsolete fire alarm boxes (Brief 1: Fire Alarm Retrofit, shown below).

In addition to making additions to a hopeful 2026 - 2046 timeline of SF climate resilience, residents could peruse and interact with three pieces in a gallery installation, seen below. The bold implication is that there is a need for the meaning-making that artists bring to civic culture.
